About me
I am Teoalida and I love doing research, collecting information, writing articles and making databases about real estate, cars, and other fields, as well as designing own housing models.
I created a website in 2009 to show off my works, a portfolio primarily for AutoCAD buildings designed by me after a deep research of Housing in Singapore and other countries. I linked it from freelancing websites hoping to get people hiring me, but I never won any project. Because very few people are interested in someone’s imaginary building designs, I published the housing research too, to share my knowledge and help Singaporeans with free information.
Originally all housing research was on a single page “Singapore HDB History, Photos, Statistics and Floor Plans” published in December 2009, it became the most visited page of my 10-page website teoalida.webs.com. In March 2011 I added List of BTO & DBSS projects, List of SERS sites, List of Executive Condominiums, split up HDB Statistics and HDB Price Trends into separate pages, added 10+ more pages in 2012 and moved to paid hosting and domain www.teoalida.com. In 2017 I started displaying HDB and Condo data on interactive maps.
The website grew to few hundreds pages constantly updated, based on suggestions and project requests from people like YOU!
Some visitors (from Singapore) suggested removal of the hobby pages and stick my website on housing… but what, the study of Singapore Housing isn’t HOBBY too? Website is named www.teoalida.com and NOT www.housing-in-singapore.com, maybe I should instead remove / move elsewhere the Housing in Singapore section because it do not generate revenue, while my other hobbies like architectural design and car database generate revenue since 2012. Sales of HDB & Condo databases started to generate revenue since 2015.
The reason for which I kept all on same website, is that the non-profit Singapore section generate 60% of total website traffic and 80% of Likes and Tweets, thus helping entire website to stay ranked high in Google searches. Website grew from 200 visitors/day in 2012 to 2000 visitors/day in 2019-2020, with spikes up to 5000 visitors/day in the day of BTO launches.
However, after 2020 Google started downranking websites covering too many topics, long pages like HDB History & floor plans lost 80% traffic, while short pages under www.teoalida.com/thesims/ section gained traffic. Website remained at 1500-2000 visitors/day but only 30% of them been from Singapore.
I also noticed many people having trouble remembering/spelling my name correctly (Google Search Console shows searches as Teolida, Teo Alida, etc), and a website covering too many topics does not perform well at SEO.
This is why on 2 October 2024 I bought a domain name easier to remember: www.HousingMap.sg, and moved there all 27 pages related to Housing in Singapore from https://www.teoalida.com/category/singapore/. I also split “HDB history & floor plans 1930s-2020s” into 8 pages, one for each decade.
